CRANIOSACRAL BIODYNAMIC

Craniosacral Biodynamic works with life as a whole. Communication within the body takes place through fluids which represent the body transport/communication system. There is a primary breathing impulse, a cyclic and rhythmical wave running throughout the whole body. The Craniosacral practitioner perceives this wave within the area being treated.
The contact is very subtle and respectful of the client’s space.
Listening to the system, what the person is expressing, underlies the Craniosacral treatment and it is therefore necessary to understand the natural healing process inside each of us.
In every person, there is an innate intelligence, a comprehension of health so deep that, when we listen to it, it can guide the whole work.
The treatment concerns also the space and a part of this space is determined by the quantity and quality of the time necessary to establish a safe relationship and listen to the state of health.

Craniosacral therapy or cranial osteopathy develops from osteopathy founded by Andrew Still at the end of the 19th century (1828-1917).
Dr. Still believed that health depended on the free circulation of liquids and nervous impulses throughout the body. Later, a small group of osteopaths developed Craniosacral therapy. Dr. William Sutherland supposed that the skull might expand and contract like lungs, and that this movement might pump not air, but the liquid surrounding brain and spinal cord, following a rhythm that he defined as “cranial rhythm” and named primary breathing mechanism or “primary respiration impulse”.

The Craniosacral method was later developed in many ways. In 1985, the Upledger Institute – named after its founder, Dr. John Upledger, an osteopathic physician – started teaching trademarked Craniosacral therapy. The Craniosacral method is in constant development. Significant contributions have come from Viola Fryman, Rollin Becker, Franklyn Sills, Jim Jealous and others. Much has been discovered relying profoundly on the unconventional responses originating from such work. Craniosacral Biodynamic uses various therapeutic approaches enriching its quality, such as verbal ability techniques, working on the quality of relationships and other creative approaches. The main objective of the treatment is to search for, support and encourage the expression of health.

The Craniosacral method is therefore an approach centred on the person, based on the awareness that each individual has an intrinsic wisdom about what happens to favour one's own healing.
This context is supported and facilitated by the practitioner, who contributes to the creation of appropriate conditions of space and contact, and helps in the process of reconstructing resources. To enter in contact keeping the appropriate space, listening to life that wants to express itself, seeking the force and how it wants to express itself. This is what makes you reach healing.
To learn when you simply need to stay with what is happening and when you need to intervene is the "art of the job".
The training course enables students to recognize and develop their own perceptive abilities.

“Our perceptions can feel the intention of natural laws, the intention of health to work…, you discover which is the footprint and what it is actually trying to do, and help it go in that direction..."

As practitioners, it is also fundamental to be centred, to listen to oneself and handle one’s inner process while supporting the client.
The nature of the relationship being established between client and therapist is the field in which change can occur. It is said that "awareness in itself is healing” and during the training course this concept is experienced and put into practice.
The techniques used by the Craniosacral system are very simple and at the same time have a solid scientific basis in human physiology and anatomy.

The Craniosacral therapy belongs to a global vision of the individual and through Craniosacral treatment we can perceive this whole without subdivisions. Of course, this requires the therapist’s presence and responsibility which must be learned. The practitioners enter into contact with the client’s health and their own as an expression of original intelligence: as Dr. Jealous says, "healing is the emergence of originality”.
